The DIY category offers a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their hands-on problem-solving skills and creativity by assembling ready-made projects of varying levels of complexity. Typically, the projects involve the assembly of pre-designed components to produce a functional and innovative solution. These projects could range from basic constructions suitable for beginners, such as simple electronic circuits or mechanical assemblies, to more advanced projects that challenge participants to integrate diverse technologies or solve complex problems. A) Objectives of the DIY Category: • Developing hand skills • Encouraging team spirit • Enhancing mechanical thinking • Promoting holistic thinking • Competing against time • Evaluating and making decisions under stress/pressure B) Participation Requirements for DIY Category: Two Levels of Competition: - Secondary Level (Grades 5-6-7-8) - High Level (Grades 9-10-11) Team Composition: - Each team must consist of 2 members. - Team members can be from different grades but must compete in the same level. - A maximum of 10 teams can participate in each level (Secondary and High). - Initially, one team from each country will be accepted for each level. - If the 10-team limit is not reached, additional teams from the same country may be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. C) Competition Conditions: • A separate model, varying in complexity, will be selected for each level. • The specific models will remain undisclosed and revealed only during the competition. • All kits are ready to assemble and come with detailed instructions. • Students do not need to bring any tools or materials. • Competition Duration: up to 3 hours • Venue: NJIT D) Criteria for Evaluation: • Structural integrity of the assembled model • Durability of the completed model • Functionality and operational capabilities • Time taken to complete the model E) DIY Rankings and Awards: - The top 3 teams from each level will be rewarded. - Each student in the winning team will receive a medal and an additional surprise prize.
